Did you realize that everything that you read, by using SPEED READING, you unconsciously store in a part of your long-term memory. This happens because of intense concentration also called focus. Intense concentration, focus, causes the change of your states of consciousness. Focus takes you into the storage area and allows access of long-term memory just by concentrating.

Another factor is photographic or tape recorder memories where you see pictures or hear conversations. You really can remember everything you have ever seen or heard, even if you weren’t focused. Your brain/mind, works like a camera, an audio recording device, and a computer, storing all memories and computer data.

As you start to learn the various methods used in the BE DYNAMIC THROUGH SPEED READING, you’ll notice some intentional redundancy, repetition! It is techniques repeated over and over, with visualization and various other added methods that will help you achieve the results you desire and be the best you can possibly be.

All of this will make you a better student, employee, communicator, and decision maker in your life. And only one of your benefits will be that you will cut reading time on reports, memos, correspondence, newspapers, novels, non-fiction, magazine, etc. You will save time, and the saying goes …”time is money”.

Writers get paid by the word in magazine and newspaper articles and by % of gross sales (royalties) in book publishing. Usually the thicker the book, the longer the article, the higher the price and the higher the royalty or more pay for being wordy. Have you noticed yet that writers are often verbose. That means many words exist within sentences that are just fillers. What you learn in Be Dynamic Through Speed Reading, is only read the words that are essential and then learn speed reading techniques. You will learn how to do this through this example, read this paragraph:

Most likely, you are a slow reader because you read word-by-word and you say every word to yourself. Instead you should use your hand as a pacer.

Take time and search for the important words … like those in capital letters:

Most likely, YOU are a SLOW READER BECAUSE YOU READ word-BY-WORD and you SAY EVERY WORD TO yourSELF. Instead you should USE YOUR HAND AS a PACER.

When you look at those words,, you’ll notice the words in ALL CAPS; these are the ONLY WORDS YOU MUST READ to get the meaning of the paragraph. The ones I typed in regular type are just fillers. What you need to be reading is this:

YOU SLOW READER BECAUSE YOU READ BY WORD SAY EVERY WORD TO SELF. USE YOUR HAND AS PACER.

Wow, it reminds me of the old Tonto of the Lone Ranger Saturday AM TV show. But, you can get what it means and you can easily get rid of those filler words.

Dr. Jay Polmar, the founder of www.speedread.org , taught classes in colleges and universities for 16 years.

Everything moves fast these days, information becomes outdated rapidly and new technology has made all of this information available to almost everyone. Just keeping up with all the reading to be done can be a full time job. Adults and students both struggle to read fast enough to keep up with all they must learn each day. Speed reading programs are techniques to help an adult or child learn to read groups of words instead of single words and to overcome habits which slow their reading down.

While it is possible to move your eyes over words very quickly and still not retain any information that is not considered fast reading. Programs focus on how to pick out pertinent information and scan a page in blocks rather than word by word. Individuals who may not benefit as much by speed-reading are those whose basic skills need polishing first.

Most adults were taught to read and understand what they read, speed was not important and how many times they reread a single word was not usually mentioned. These poor habits develop because people are not taught ones that improve their speed. When a person chooses a program to increase reading speed the program helps them replace habits in reading that slow them down with good ones that speed up their reading and help comprehension.

Programs to increase reading speed may not make a person any more intelligent than they already are. They will however often make a person seem more intelligent, because they are able to read faster and have access to that much more information. There are programs that focus on helping children develop good habits early in their academic career. Children usually benefit in two ways from these, they read more because reading is easier and no longer have a chore, and they absorbed more material, which can help maximize their study time.

There are various ways to learn how to read faster through these courses. Seminars or classes are usually offered in areas of any size. In addition software for the computer is also available which can help a person learn to read more quickly. Software may suit the person who has a quiet area, and access to the computer for an hour or so every day. On the other hand some people may prefer to attend formalized traditional courses when the home is busy and noisy or they don’t have a computer.

Persons who have difficulty dedicating time consistently may well prefer the software. However those who live in a busy household where it is difficult to get time or to get time on the computer may benefit more from a formal class as the environment may be more conducive to concentration. In either case, reading faster usually requires consistent practice to master.

One of the most frequent mistakes people make when trying to learn the techniques to read more quickly is to attempt material that is too difficult. When reading a Philosophy or math textbook or the Wall Street Journal a person may pause frequently to consider a point, or to do mental calculations. While reading through the latest popular novel usually requires little thought, it is all about enjoyment. Choose materials, which are lighter reading to being with, later the techniques can be applied to almost any reading material.

Most speed reading programs also offer tips on how to improve reading comprehension. While reading faster is important, remembering the important points is also crucial to getting the most from these programs. Choose programs based on the home environment, the age of the reader and the possible distractions in their learning environment. Not all benefit from a home course, when it is hard or impossible to find a quiet place to practice at home.

Speed reading exercises aim to increase the rate of reading without affecting retention or comprehension of the text. There are many different methods for speed reading but the essential is that they all focus on a balance between speed and comprehension. Another thing; they all necessitate a certain amount of practice.

There exists a few different ways to speed read like not pronouncing all of the words, speeding up word recognition so that focus on every individual letter is not necessary and generally scanning over the text. Different ways will come naturally to different people and these will reveal themselves with time and practice. As a general idea, getting your eyes to accelerate their movement and speeding up word recognition.

Skimming through the text is a method a reader uses to scan across a text for a general idea of the essence of the article. In the case of informational texts that are very dense, this is not necessarily the best method to use because comprehension tends to be less. Of course, this is a good method for a brief idea of the text and understanding its general meaning.

Meta guiding is another way of speed reading and may be the most popular to speed up your reading process. In meta guiding, the reader has to guide the eyes along the lines of text by following a pointer in the form of a pen or a finger. This following forces the eyes to speed up and discourages subvocalization.

There is a basic speed reading exercise associated with this method that consists of pacing yourself with your finger and going through a text while accelerating the speed at which you’d normally read across a line. The reader should gradually accelerate the movement of the finger and force the eyes to distinguish words quickly and increase the speed at which one reads.

There is a second exercise possible to learn speed reading skills and that consists of skimming over the text and look for key words tying into the meaning of every sentence. This exercise implies reading in blocks and there are other more complicated exercises that repeat this method.

This next exercise requires a little more preparation time and index cards. The index cards need to be prepared with blocks of words, phrases or sentence fragments. This exercise will consist of reading directly from the index cards instead of using a full text. For a few minutes, flip through the cards and try to quickly recognize the group of words that figure on every card. Effectively, this works word recognition mechanisms to accelerate the rate at which fragments of sentences are read.

Each and every one of these speed reading exercises requires some time to be invested in order to actually work. For optimal conditions, the reader should have plenty of rest and optimal level of concentration while practicing these exercises. It takes time and a lot of practice before a reader will really increase his speed. Reading really fast is possible while keeping a good level of retention and comprehension.

Speed reading is a great skill to have in the academic and professional worlds. It is rather easy to learn this skill and doesn’t require a financial investment. All that is necessary are speed reading exercises, a little patience and some determination.

No one honestly knows when speed reading was first used, but it could have been a long while ago. For centuries, reading was the privilege of a minority of the most highly-educated individuals in the world, the overwhelming preponderance of whom were monks and priests. This tiny, select group of men protected their privilege and were loathe to teach the general public to read. Furthermore, all through those hundreds of years there were relatively few books to read compared with today. Books were also very costly as they all had to be written out by hand. Conceivably the only fact that has not changed is that the Bible was the most common book in existence and even now the Bible is the most prevalent book.

The world is quickly becoming a place where individuals are slowly but surely giving up on books and becoming fixed in front of monitors or television screens. In such a world, parents must not ignore the importance of developing a zeal for reading in themselves and their children. Reading is a habit that should be established when the child is fairly young, so what can you do to engender this habit?

Well, there are several tactics you can make use of, although one of the best to lead by example. Read with your child every day, even if its only for 10-15 minutes. Allow your child to see you reading. By this I mean, don’t only read in bed before you go to sleep, but in place of watching television sometimes and read your children a bed-time story. Encourage them to read too. You could also:

Register your child for reading classes, if you really don’t have much time or your child is a little slow at reading. There are many well-structured after school reading classes that aim to make books more attractive to children. They help children with articulation, sayings and metaphors. These classes can be fun with animated characters and pictures, especially for young children,. They often make use of picture books, nursery rhymes, comical songs and short stories to fire up the imagination of younger children.

You will have to learn how to arouse your child’s interest. If your child has a preferred character, pick a series of books that feature this character. Endeavor to encourage your children to read proper books not comics. The language in comics frequently leaves a great deal to be desired with its slapdash English and street slang. As an alternative, go for series of books like Harry Potter or Tarzan.

You should build yourself a library of your own books. This may sound a little grand, but after all, a library is only a collection of books. Begin with a good-looking bookshelf that you can easily add to. A talent like reading cannot be learned in only one place, so you cannot afford to leave all the difficult work to the day-school or even the after school curricula. You have to pick up books that you think your child will like too. Use the Internet as a source for learning about the modern reading games that will attract young children to the excellent and ancient art of reading,

Once you child is interested in reading for its own sake, you might read up on speed reading. Speed reading is best suited for educational revision and background reading. It’s greatly suited to cramming or studying for examinations. It is ideal for school and university. Nevertheless, the first job, before you can think about speed reading, is to get your child reading in the first place.

What have you been reading lately? In a gathering, you can soon tell who the wide readers are, since frequent readers often think and speak well too. They win the admiration, respect, and fellowship of others. After all, reading expands the mind and many people consider it one of the most satisfying pleasures known to mankind, combining, as it does, mental agility and physical relaxation way above the scale offered by television.

The act of reading is mostly a mental activity, as you read with your mind and use your imagination to paint the storyline of the action thriller you are reading. You use your mind to imagine the pleasure that the characters in the story are experiencing as the plot unfolds; or you contemplate the various arguments and ideas theorized by the author of that self-help book you are reading.

Reading effectively helps you to develop an extensive range of vocabulary through reading different styles of books. A skillful reader recognizes a wide range of vocabulary. The reader may not understand exactly what every word means, but he/she will have a good idea of what the sentence is trying to say.

The act of reading makes you more aware and more curious about hitherto unknown words. Some readers even like to employ ‘the dictionary habit’, which means that whenever they find a new word, they attempt to figure out what it means by the context. If they cannot do this, they refer to the dictionary.

Similarly, reading develops intellectual curiosity by exposing the reader to different subjects. He/she learns to read by reading books of increasing difficulty and variety. Just as in other kinds of education, he/she is learning by actually doing and while he/she is reading he/she is automatically learning about the subject matter of the book too – a free by-product!

Basically, reading trains you to have an active and open mind. Only understanding the writers point of view is not really good enough, you must have a response to what you have read. Be an active, not a passive, reader. Try to develop the habit of drawing your own conclusions, the habit of active thinking, of agreeing or disagreeing with the author. Always keep your mind open; understand and consider the ideas that you have read. A practical part of active reading is the development of one’s own conclusions.

Now let me introduce you to the idea known as speed reading. All of the above applies three, four, eight, nine, even ten times over, because speed readers can read that much faster than the average reader! Imagine that … being able to read, comprehend and remember all those books. You would certainly become well-read in your subject far more quickly than others. Just imagine how that could help you at work or in school or college …

Allow me to share four basic rules for effective reading and better comprehension:

1) Try to read more and more every month. Remember the saying that practice makes perfect. 2) Develop the habit of reading for main ideas, ie look for the subject and predicate – the main ideas 3) Learn to read with focus and concentration. Think of what you are reading. Good readers read with understanding. 4) Learn to budget your time. Experiment with your reading time. Try purposely to read faster. Give yourself a time limit on a specific book that you are reading.

Reading is a fantastically stimulating mental activity. It expands your understanding and ability. You really have so much to gain by learning the joy of reading. So, go ahead and take down a book right today.

How would you like to remember 90% of what you read from anything: including reading the newspaper, your favorite novel, business reports, or your child’s MySpace blog? How would you like to be able to read real fast? You can read maybe even three times faster and still remember almost everything you read. How would you like this to happen in just one single hour?

Impossible? Not really! With Speedread America’s Speed Complete Speed Reading Program, hundreds of thousands of people have done just that!

But what can one do with the ability to read over 600 words per minute and remember almost every word? The lifelong effects of speed reading are numerous.

First, you will finally be able to get to all those books on your list “or your university professors’ “Suggested Reading” lists” you have never had the time to read all that before. Suddenly, an hour’s commute to work on public transportation won’t mean simply a chapter or two it will mean an entire book checked off your list! You won’t even get that sense of disappointment when you skim a book just to finish it. With the Complete Speed Reading Program, and the new ability to retain nearly everything you read, you’ll be able to discuss the book in next month’s “or even next year’s” book club! When you read Les Miserables or Moby Dick for your literature class, you will be able to read the unabridged versions in less time than it takes your classmates to read the bastardized cut-out-entire-chapters versions! Not only that, you will have the bragging rights that come with reading the classics as the author intended.

If you are in a profession that requires a lot of reading and just as much retention such as scholars, physicians, writers, doctors, and attorneys “or are interested in going into such fields” being able to read even twice as fast can end up saving hours “even up to days or weeks” on an intense project.

If you are a student “or just know” being able to read faster and comprehend more will, undoubtedly, be of a great boon to not only facilitate you study, but also your GPA. Studies have also shown that the new way of reading taught to those who want to speed read may also assist the brain in learning a new language.

Speed reading also has lifelong physical effects as well. The less time you spend reading, the less eye strain and eye and muscle fatigue you will experience which may reduce the predisposition the need for reading glasses later in life.

Because the Complete Speed Reading Program re-teaches your brain how to read, you learn how to remember more at the same time. Simply being able to remember what you have read can be just what you need to set yourself apart from the pack paying for that next promotion, the university scholarship, the head of the bell curve, or the rest of the neighborhood book club.

You can be a top performer in College and in the Business World. Be sure to check out Dr. Jay Polmar’s most excellent course: The Complete Speed Reading Program — there are family and business editions. The Complete Speed Reading program , and be a top performer in College and business- be powerful!

The worlds most famous speed reading course is Reading Dynamics created by Evelyn Wood. Its famous for teaching people to read faster, or speed reading as she called it. Her live course was the first known course that taught students to read faster and it started with about 25 hours of training to double your reading speed.

Over time the method was made available all over the world. These well practiced techniques teach students to read more rapidly, and also comprehend more of what they are reading. These techniques have proven to be repeatedly effective with all ages in many countries all over the world.

There are many stories about how Evelyn Wood first learned speed reading. My personal favorite was that she, as a child, was fishing at a nearby lake in Utah where she was living. To Evelyn, fishing was a relaxing necessity, but her mind was always active.

When fishing, she brought a book to read until she saw that the float on the fishing line was bobbing. Then shed reel in the fish. It was said that she read with the sun at her back for natural light, and used her index finger on her dominant hand to track under the words she were reading.

Every time when a fish bit, she just put down the book and started fishing again. That’s how it all started.

As she got older, she went to the University of Utah where one professor read and graded her 80-page research paper in about ten minutes. This came to 2,500 words per minute. He didn’t know how to tell his student what made is so he could read fast, nor how he developed his ability. He just read and could understand very quickly and efficiently.

Challenged by the potential to read that fast, Evelyn researched and studied fast readers to see if she could improve her reading speed and comprehension too. Then, she began to teach students herself, she figured out that it could be favorable to them if she passed her skills on.

This desire to read faster and comprehend more is Universal. People all over the world were fascinated in, what turned out to be, Evelyn’s own techniques for speed reading and comprehension. As she expanded her research and investigation of speed reading, she found people from different parts of the world reading 1,500 to 6,000 words per minute. All had an impressive level of comprehension proven by their knack for recalling specifics of the text.

She catalogued what each of them did to read faster and she found that each had their own traits and all of them had multiple traits in common with the others. These included:

1. Words were seen, and read, in groups. 2. Readers identified patterns and key words when they scanned text, quickly identifying the purpose and theme behind the writings. 3. Readers also sped up or slowed down with the simplicity or complexity of the reading materials. This permitted them control of levels of comprehension.

Based on this the Evelyn Wood method was developed. Techniques were developed and tested.

In 1959, she was proficient and prepared enough to develop a system that would teach others to speed read as well. Later that year, she opened the Evelyn Wood Reading Dynamics Institute in Washington DC. John F. Kennedy was the first president to have his White House staff trained by the Evelyn Wood techinque.

Today, the Evelyn Wood Reading Dynamics Institute no longer exists in the US. The rights were sold off to various publishers to market as courses, self-taught, and the remaining Evelyn Wood Reading Dynamics teachers have private instructional practices. Some teachers are still healthy enough in their mid 6os and 70s to still teach the original technique.

Today, the few remaining teachers have departed their secrets to others, who have put the courses online for you to study. Though, you might learn from itinerant speed reading instructors who often teach classes at community colleges, or private corporations throughout the US and beyond. In New Zealand, Australia, and Western Europe, some offices of the original Evelyn Wood Reading Dynamics have survived the creator who past on over 20 years ago.

Since the 1990s, courses became available in audio, video VCR, and later, DVD, adding a convenience that Evelyn could never have even dreamed of when she first taught. Faster reading with greater comprehension can be obtained by students around the world by using the system that Evelyn Wood invented while fishing one sunny day. To find Evelyn Wood Reading Dynamics courses, check with www.speedread.org, they carry the audio and video versions to help you increase your reading speed and achieve far greater.

ACCELERATED PACING METHOD:

ACCELERATED PACING METHOD:

Various hand movements can cause acceleration of reading speed. We are about to introduce you to several hand movements that will accelerate your reading ability. Try each one and see which suits you best.

BASIC PACING:

Pace your eyes so swiftly over a line that you don’t have time to form the sounds of the words or syllables in your throat.

To understand this concept, you must understand that your nemesis “The Babbler” (your own inner voice) is reading to you in silent speech and then it goes into your brain.

We did experiments in Hawaii, New Mexico, Florida, and elsewhere. It appears that those with the slowest speaking rates have naturally slow reading rates. With this method, your speaking rate will no longer restrict your reading speed. You will read as fast as you can think. Yes, you can read as fast as your mind can work.

To understand this concept, you must understand that your nemesis “The Babbler” is reading to you in silent speech and then it goes into your brain. With this method, your speaking rate will no longer limit your reading speed. You can read as fast as you can think. What I am saying is you can read as fast as your mind can work.

Begin pacing across a line faster than you can form the sounds in your throat:

Through the DYNAMIC SPEED READING program you’ll learn to develop these skills which will enhance your reading ability and speed simply by reading.

DYNAMIC SPEED READING program will teach you how to develop these skills to enhance your reading ability and speed through practice and exercises. Soon, you could soon be reading twice as fast as you ever have and retaining valuable information to increase your comprehension and improve your grades.
